CHICAGO – November 28, 2017 – The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM), a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) has named Christopher J. Ondrula, JD as its new Executive Director. Mr. Ondrula was selected by the ABPM Board of Directors following an extensive national search and served most recently as the Strategic Business Affairs & Legal Advisor for ABMS.
“We are excited to have Chris join ABPM and serve as our new Executive Director,” stated Marie A. Krousel-Wood, MD, MSPH, FACPM and the ABPM Board Chair. “Chris has extensive executive leadership experience, and brings with him a strong background in operational management that we as a Board were seeking. His knowledge of the greater Boards Community and passionate support of continuous professional development will help us as an organization meet our strategic objectives as well as improve our diplomates’ experience. We look forward to Chris joining the ABPM team on December 11, 2017.”
In his role at ABMS, Mr. Ondrula planned, organized and coordinated projects supporting key ABMS organizational strategic objectives, focusing on ways to improve efficiency. That work included the creation and implementation of a key performance indicator report that included operational metrics and outcome measures that quantified organizational productivity and provided a platform for improved operational performance at ABMS. Mr. Ondrula’s responsibilities at ABMS also involved the CertLink Initiative where, among other things, he was chiefly responsible for development of the economic model to assess its viability, as well as his collaborative work with the Ethics and Professional Committee, and strategic efforts in support of the ABMS Legislative Team.
Prior to joining ABMS in 2015, Mr. Ondrula served as the Chief Executive Officer and Director at Heartland Food Corporation, and, before that was the former Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel for Spence Group Services.
A graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, Mr. Ondrula received his Juris Doctorate from Valparaiso University School of Law. Initially practicing in Chicago area law firms where his practice
focused on the defense of medical malpractice claims and product liability litigation, he later joined the Arena Football League as its Assistant General Counsel.

Mr. Ondrula is involved in various civic and charitable activities in the Chicagoland area, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Glenview Jr. Titans Youth Football Organization. Mr. Ondrula, his wife and three children reside in Glenview.
