Joanna Marliss Nelms, MD, MPH serves as the At-Large Specialty Member on ABPM’s Board of Directors. Dr. Nelms assumed this position in 2021.

Dr. Nelms earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and a Master of Public Health from Wright State University. She completed the US Air Force residency in Aerospace Medicine at the Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.

Dr. Nelms practices Aerospace Medicine in San Antonio, Texas. She is also a member of the Texas Air National Guard.

She is certified by ABPM in both Aerospace Medicine and Occupational & Environmental Medicine.
