Joseph “Tim” LaVan, MD, MPH, represents the specialty of Aerospace Medicine on the ABPM’s Board of Directors. He has served on the Board since 2021.
Dr. LaVan earned his medical degree at the University of Miami School of Medicine in Florida and went on to earn a Master of Public Health from the University of Washington at Seattle. He completed an Aerospace Medicine residency at the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida and a Family Practice residency at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida.
He has previously served as the Program Director of the US Navy Residency in Aerospace Medicine and as the Officer-in-Charge of the Naval Aerospace Medical Institute. He is currently the Command Flight Surgeon/Aeromedical Instructor at the Naval Safety Center School of Aviation Safety in Pensacola.
Dr. LaVan is certified in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine and Family Medicine.
