Please review these instructions thoroughly to complete your online MOC examination.
TO GET FAMILIAR WITH THE REMOTELY TESTING PROCESS, PLEASE WATCH THE VIDEO BELOW:
COMMUNICATION SCHEDULE FOR REMOTELY PROCTORED MOC EXAM
- Diplomates registered for the remotely proctored MOC exam will receive an email containing instructions for accessing the remotely proctored MOC exam directly from the ABPM’s test delivery partner, Paradigm Testing/MonitorEDU.
- For Diplomates registered for the January 2023 administration, emails will be sent by January 10, 2023.
ONLINE EXAM REQUIREMENTS
- A private, quiet space with a stable internet connection;
- Computer & Operating System: Laptop or desktop computer with a webcam, with Windows 7 or higher or Mac OS 9 or higher
- Mobile Device: Android 4.1 or higher and iOS (Apple) 8.0 smart devices with camera. You can see your operating system version in the settings of your phone.
- Internet connection: A steady internet connection is required (wifi will be required for mobile streaming) with a minimum upload speed of 1MB/second. Recommended speed is 1.5MB/second upload, 1.5 MB/second download. Tethering is not supported.
Support will be provided throughout the pre-exam configuration process as well as before and during the exam itself.
PRE-EXAM CONFIGURATION AND TESTING
The pre-exam equipment check will test your computer, mobile device camera, and internet signal. Instructions for completing the pre-exam equipment check will be communicated directly from the ABPM’s test delivery partner. This needs to be completed 24 hours prior to taking your MOC exam.

EXAM DAY
Your access to initiate test day activities is provided in the pre-exam email you will receive from Paradigm Testing/MonitorEDU. The link will be activated within 24 hours after you complete your pre-exam configuration. You determine the time you would like to begin your exam by accessing the test day link that is provided in the email you receive from Paradigm Testing. You may test at any hour, with 24×7 support.
When you access the test day link, you will be assisted through the following steps:
- A brief, second verification of computer, phone and internet readiness
- Verification of your identity (government-issued photo identification required)
- Scan of your testing room (using your smart phone)
- Positioning of your phone as a second camera (You will need to have the phone attached to the charger during the exam to make sure that it will not lose power. You will be asked to put your phone on “airplane” mode and turn the wifi on (note: you need to have access to a wifi network during the exam))
- Launch of your ABPM MOC exam
Please note:
- This is a two-hour examination consisting of 100 multiple-choice questions. The examination is divided into two (2), 1-hour sections. Each section consists of 50 multiple-choice questions. You must complete both sections in a single sitting, but are allowed a break between sections (up to 15 minutes). You will not be allowed to return to the first section after the break.
- You are allowed to take notes during the exam on an erasable white board or scratch paper. Examinees will be asked to show the proctor that the paper or board is blank at the beginning of the exam and all notes must be destroyed to the proctor’s satisfaction at the conclusion of the exam.
- You will be able to ask your proctor any questions via a text chat box during the exam.
