ABPM will contact Candidates by email when their application has been approved to notify them of their eligibility to sit for the Initial Certification Examination and to invite them to register and pay for their Examination on the ABPM Physician Portal.
The deadline to register and pay for the 2024 Examination is September 13, 2024. Subject to a $500 administrative fee, the Examination fee is refundable until midnight (ET) on September 27, 2024.
Examination fees are valid only for the current Examination cycle.
Examination Accommodations
The ABPM recognizes that Candidates who are eligible to take Examinations may need reasonable accommodations pursuant to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Candidates who need testing accommodations for the 2024 Initial Certification Examinations should contact the ABPM by email no later than July 15, 2024. Testing accommodations encompass any modification in the administration, procedures, or settings of the Examinations.
Examination Registration Timeline
- Candidate is notified of their eligibility to sit for the Initial Certification Examination.
- Candidate logs into their account on the ABPM Physician Portal to register and pay for the 2024 Examination.
- Within 10 business days of registration, Candidates will receive an Authorization-to-Test email from Pearson VUE with instructions for scheduling their Examination.
Scheduling Your Examination
You will receive an Authorization-to-Test email from Pearson VUE within 10 business days of registering for the Examination. The Authorization-to-Test email will contain instructions for scheduling your Examination at a Pearson VUE testing center.
ABPM encourages all Candidates who registered for the Examination to secure a testing appointment with Pearson VUE as soon as possible.
Required Documents for Testing
You must bring two pieces of identification when you appear at a Pearson VUE testing center to take the Examination:
- Primary ID: A government-issued form of identification that includes a photo and signature (e.g., driver’s license or passport) and
- Secondary ID: Any identification that includes both your name and signature, or your name and a recent photo
The name on your IDs must match each other and they must match the name you used to register for the Examination. Please contact the ABPM immediately if the name on your scheduling confirmation is misspelled or differs from your name as it appears on your identification. Name changes or corrections cannot be made fewer than 5 days before your scheduled testing appointment.
