The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) congratulates current ABPM Diplomate and former member of ABPM’s Board of Directors, Susan Northrup, MD, MPH, who has been named by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as the next U.S. Federal Air Surgeon. Dr. Northrup previously acted as the Deputy Federal Air Surgeon for the FAA. In her new position, Dr. Northrup will oversee all FAA medical programs.
Dr. Northrup has extensive aeromedical experience as a private pilot and as a retired U.S. Air Force colonel. She is board certified by the ABPM in both Aerospace Medicine and Occupational Medicine and was a member of the ABPM’s Board of Directors from 2007 to 2016, serving as the ABPM’s Aerospace Medicine Vice Chair from 2013 to 2016.
