• In Memoriam: Lloyd Tepper, MD, ScD

    The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Dr. Lloyd Tepper, who passed away on January 29, 2025.

    Dr. Tepper was a long-standing ABPM volunteer, serving as a trustee on ABPM’s Board of Directors from 1986 through 1994. For over twenty years, he put his highly developed question-writing and copy-editing skills to use as the editor of ABPM’s certification exams in Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.

    Dr. Tepper was a beloved physician and leader in the field of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, which he found married his interests in both medicine and chemical engineering. Over the course of his 60-year career, he held a variety of roles including as Deputy Director of the Kettering Laboratory and Department of Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati, at the US Food and Drug Administration as Associate Commissioner, and as Corporate Medical Director at Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. He was a mentor to many residents as Adjunct Professor of Occupational and Environmental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

    Dr. Tepper was a giant in his field, known as a gentleman scholar with a keen wit and enthusiasm for both learning and teaching. He will be missed by many.
