Chicago, IL, February 10, 2025: The American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) is seeking nominations of highly qualified leaders to fill an Addiction Medicine Sub-Board Chair position on its Board of Directors.
The deadline for nominations is July 31, 2025. ABPM will select the new Sub-Board Chair at its January 2026 Board of Directors meeting.
Nominations must be directed to ABPM’s CEO, Christopher J. Ondrula, JD, by email to [email protected]. Nominations must include the nominee’s CV and personal statement of interest (maximum of 250 words).
The following criteria should be considered when submitting a nomination. Nominees must:
- Be physicians and must possess a currently active, valid, and unrestricted medical license in all states, US territories, or Canadian provinces in which they practice medicine.
- Be certified by ABPM in Addiction Medicine.
- Be engaged in substantially full-time practice, teaching, or research in Addiction Medicine in the United States.
- Have demonstrated achievement of and potential for continuing contributions to the field of Addiction Medicine.
- Have appropriate Addiction Medicine academic and educational experience,
- Demonstrate leadership capabilities in Addiction Medicine.
Additionally, the ideal nominee will have experience serving on an ACGME review committee and/or at least one of ABPM’s initial certification examination or longitudinal assessment program item-writing subcommittees.
Nominees must be willing and able to accept the responsibilities of Board membership. Sub-Board Chairs are expected to:
- Serve an initial two-year term and may, subject to meeting certain objective criteria, be reelected once for an additional two-year term as At-Large Sub-Board Committee Chair-Elect and, finally, may be elected for an additional two-year term as At-Large Sub-Board Member.
- Continue to be active in Addiction Medicine practice, teaching, or research for the duration of their service on the Board.
- Participate constructively and productively in group settings;
- Accept work responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time by the Board;
- Participate in Board examination question-preparation activities.
The Board meets in person at least twice annually, usually for a total of six to eight days, and throughout the year the Board routinely conducts business through electronic means. Accordingly, Sub-Board Chairs must have sufficient flexibility to actively participate in and engage with the Board and ABPM staff as may be required during their tenure on the Board.
ABPM is a Member Board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Founded in 1948, ABPM works with ABMS in the development of standards for the ongoing assessment and certification of over 12,000 physicians certified by ABPM in the specialties of Aerospace Medicine, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, and Public Health and General Preventive Medicine, and in the subspecialties of Addiction Medicine; Clinical Informatics; Health Care Administration, Leadership, and Management; Medical Toxicology; and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.
